UCHIDA CANOPY

UCHIDA.CANOPY

The Third Annual Uchida Stone Carving Workshop, sponsored by the University of Oregon Department of Fine and Applied Arts, was held in Eugene, Oregon from December 14-22 1996. This was an opportunity for sculptors of all ability levels to work with and learn from the distinguished Japanese artist; Kazutaka Uchida.

UCHIDA.CANOPY

Uchida is one of Japan's foremost sculptors in stone.

The workshop was an intensive nine-day experience in traditional and contemporary approaches to stone carving. Instruction included forging and terpering hand tools, carving with pneumatic chisels and working with grinders and diamond blades. Each participant had a work stand, stone and access to workshop equipment.
With the expectation for rain and cool temperatures [30-40 degrees F], all participants should bring raingear, wool hats, sturdy shoes or boots and warm clothing. Parts of the class were held outdoors under this designed canopy.
