CHILD OF PLEASURE

CoHo.CvP

Ninon De L'Enclos was a celebrated courtesan and philosopher who bewitched 17th century France. Ninon is the lover of many men but very much her own mistress - until her father abruptly arrives on her Paris doorstep many years after abandoning his wife and child and fleeing France. This fiercely independent woman is forced to come to grips with long-suppressed feelings of desertion and betrayal.

Portland playwright William S. Gregory brings to Child of Pleasure the wit and richness of language that were the hallmark of his earlier CoHo-produced Mary Tudor, winner of three Drammy Awards for direction, new work, and ensemble acting. This world premiere uses sparkling dialogue and elegantly fashioned characters to tell the story of a very modern woman who must become a girl again in order to reach a resolution with her larger-than-life father.
