SOURI'S

collaboration with lamb design studios inc.

SOURI'S, LDS, 2001.
SOURI'S, LDS, 2001.

Located in the heart of the bustling Pearl District, this home accessories salon shows how one can transform a simple space into something luxurious; even with a tight budget.

SOURI'S, LDS, 2001.

The metal skin of the cashwrap was the first time that I one of my layered metal panel designs was fabricated.  It embodies my design theory of 'Material Narrative', which champions the importance of latent memories tied to materials worn by time and use.

SOURI'S, LDS, 2001.

When designing this project, the mythos of Persia, and how such a story could be conveyed in materials was very important.  The image of hand wrought metal became the only logical direction of the aesthetic.  [Imagine the layered metal of the Sultan's armor's breast plate...]

Such texture / narrative / patina has become a bit of a 'signature' in my work. The inspiration came from quilted metal of fire doors, and the sculptures of Kim Hamblin.
